Nearly 200 students entered our Drive for Education Scholarship contest, and on June 18th Kendall Toyota was packed full with over 400 people to watch as twenty student’s names were pulled at random to be finalists. They each won a $1,000 scholarship to use next year at college AND they got to pick a key. The contest was open to high school seniors who completed a minimum of fifteen hours of local community service during their senior year, and had an overall grade point average of 3.0 or higher.

With fingers crossed, 10 finalists attempted to start the car before it was Tanner Aldous from North Douglas High School’s turn to climb into the driver’s seat. When the car started up Tanner was in shock and could barely believe he won! But maybe not quite as much as his father…Tanner’s dad could not attend the event due to work, but when he got the call he thought his family was joking, and said he will believe it when he sees the car. Tanner is not fond of talking in front of big crowds or in front of cameras. However, when have 4.0 GPA, you’re valedictorian of your class, and you just won a $1,000 scholarship and a NEW car from Kendall, you can’t quite get out of it.
